White House Expands Federal Hiring Push with Attorney Network, NASA Tech Program
The Trump administration launched a new effort to recruit attorneys into the federal government workforce, unveiling a new Attorney Talent Network.
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) said the new platform will connect potential applicants with federal government recruiters. It will make it easier for candidates to search attorney job postings on USAJobs.gov, allow recruiters to easily search attorney resumes, and notify potential candidates about hiring events. The network includes resources for internships for current law school students and recent graduates.
“By making it easier for legal professionals to engage with federal recruiters, we are strengthening the federal workforce and advancing our mission of public service,” said OPM Director Scott Kupor.
The recruiting push comes after a significant number of lawyers left federal service over the past year. More than 9,000 federal attorneys left government jobs in 2025, including more than 500 at the Department of Justice (DOJ). About 2,000 lawyers were hired back, leaving the federal government with a net loss of more than 7,000 federal attorneys.
Among the agencies with concerns about a lack of attorneys: the DOJ Civil Rights Division, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), and others.
NASA Force
Also, OPM and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) launched a new program called NASA Force. It's a dedicated talent track within the U.S. Tech Force initiative to recruit top engineers to work on America’s space program.
NASA Force will identify and place top talent into mission critical roles at NASA for two-year assignments. They’ll work on critical programs such as Artemis, which aims to return astronauts to the moon.
“This partnership strengthens our workforce and helps ensure the United States remains the global leader in space,”’ said NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman.
Applications for NASA Force will open soon.
The U.S. Tech Force– which is also placing private sector workers in a two-year program– has seen strong interest and had to extend its initial application deadline. The first hires are expected to be announced this month.
