Wanted: Federal Managers with High EQs

In today’s tumultuous political environment, federal managers need to leverage every aspect of their skillset in order to succeed on the job.  The issues, questions and challenges facing the federal community and federal managers seem to become more complex, varied, and dynamic by the day.  Government agencies and successful companies are increasingly seeking more people with high emotional intelligence (EQ).  EQ is essentially the ability to perceive, understand, express, and adjust our emotions, when necessary, to solve problems or manage responses in ourselves and others.  EQ is a skill that can be developed over time, at whatever age, as long as you devote the necessary attention and dedication to its development—and it begins Friday May 21, with Marc Brackett’s introduction of the RULER concept and Mood Meter.

After last month’s webinar from FEDS (For Federal Employees--Navigating the Emotional Roller Coaster)   federal employees expressed interest in a deeper understanding of emotional intelligence as the mental and emotional strain of our collective experience is being felt at all levels across all agencies.  Federal employees understand the need to develop emotional intelligence to effectively address issues and problems in accordance with agency missions but also within offices and departments.  Microsoft, Google, and Facebook employees, as well as employees of the White House and Department of Defense, have all benefitted from the development of EQ skills—now, all federal employees can too.

FEDS is excited to announce a webinar focused on EQ development, titled “Wanted:  Federal Employees with High EQs.”  Brackett, who has been a keynote speaker at the White House, U.S. Departments of Education, Justice, and Defense, and the Surgeon General’s office, will anchor the opportunity for all federal employees to understand the role of emotions and emotional intelligence in learning, decision making, relationship quality, and mental health.  Moreover, this gives federal employees access to the tools to bring about positive and long-lasting impacts on the health, personal lives, workplace performance and interactions with coworkers and members of the public.  Federal employees and family members of all ages may register for the webinar here.  The webinar will take place on Zoom, so if you are unable to access and use Zoom on your work computer, consider downloading the Zoom app to your phone or personal computer beforehand.  The webinar will be taped and shared with all who register.

In addition to developing their EQ, federal managers can take steps to protect their careers by enrolling in FEDS Protection.  FEDS Protection’s PLI policy provides $200,000 of legal representation per incident for administrative actions, which include employment practices allegations, investigations, disciplinary actions, and proposed removals arising out of the performance of a professional service.  FEDS also provides up to $1, $2 or $3 million in civil liability protection and up to $100,000 for criminal defense costs, all for a premium cost starting at $290 a year.  Federal managers are also eligible for a reimbursement up to 50% of the cost of their PLI policy through their agency.  To learn more about how a FEDS PLI policy can provide protection for your career, visit our website or call 866.955.FEDS today.
