Supporting Career Governmental Leaders Lead Through Change

The FEDforum is brought to you by WAEPA, the life insurance choice of over 46,000 Feds and their families.

The prompt for this round of the FEDforum is: How are you supporting the return to work and the future of work? This week, hear from the Senior Executives Association (SEA).

The Senior Executives Association is focused on providing federal, career senior governmental leaders with opportunities to lead, collaborate, network, learn and grow during a challenging period in our history.  The future of federal work, the workplace, and federal leadership will look nothing like the world we lived in before the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic accelerated decades of change going on in the broader economy and labor market, precipitating massive transformation within the public sector.

The Senior Executives Association (SEA) is focused on helping federal career executives, as well as rising federal leaders at the GS-12 to 15 level, meet these challenges head-on with professional development programming, cross-sector and cross-government networking opportunities, as well as policy advocacy with the Biden-Harris Administration and on Capitol Hill.

SEA partners with the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA) and the Shared Services Leadership Coalition (SSLC) to co-host two public-private forums bringing together government and industry leaders for real-time collaborative problem-solving and info-sharing with their peers. The Shared Services Forum for Agency Implementation Leaders meets the 2nd Thursday each month (resources from past sessions accessible here) and the 3rd Thursday of each month the Working Forward Forum, convened in partnership with the Chief Human Capital Officer (CHCO) community is exploring how emerging technologies and telework are transforming the nature of work and how government policies and cultures need to change to continue to leverage workplace innovations in the future post-COVID-19 environment.

Each month, SEA’s Corporate Advisory Council partners also offer webinars and professional development activities that are open to all SEA members, and often to government employees. A recent timely example was an interactive session focused on “Strategies for a Resilient Workforce.”  This December 8-10, SEA will host its annual virtual leadership summit, designed to empower participants to take ideas about the future of work and apply them today. Between the pandemic, the shift to fully remote work environments, changing economy and talent drivers, the ideas that drive how work and leadership will be handled in the future are being tested immediately. The Government's leaders are being challenged to meet this new work dynamic head on - which may require different ways of thinking and being. Add this event to your Individual or Executive Development Plan today!

SEA is also an advocate for career leaders, ensuring the Congress and administration are providing the tools and resources necessary for agencies to deliver their missions.  Throughout the pandemic, we have engaged OPM and the Congress, recently writing to the Safer Federal Workforce Task Force along with our colleagues in the Government Managers Coalition that more support needs to be provided to federal managers by agencies and the administration.

For over 40 years, SEA has been the consistent voice for career leaders – whether in front of Congress, the Administration, or across the Executive Branch – advocating for good government solutions to the challenges facing leaders. The SEA is guided by dedication to public service and to helping career Federal leaders better serve the American people. SEA members are part of a movement to transform government through the 21st Century and to empower senior leaders to drive change.
