Relief Open to All Civilian Federal and Postal Employees

The FEDforum is brought to you by WAEPA, the life insurance choice of over 46,000 Feds and their families.

The inaugural prompt for the FEDforum is: Introduce your organization to the federal community. This week, hear from the Federal Employee Education & Assistance Fund (FEEA).

If you are unfamiliar with our organization, the Federal Employee Education & Assistance Fund (FEEA) was established in 1986. We serve federal employees and their families as a national 501c3 charity modelled after military relief organizations. Our programs are open to all civilian federal and postal employees, regardless of membership, each year. All of our programs are described in detail on our website at feea.org.

In addition to participating in the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) — our CFC number is 11185, the Feds Helping Feds mission receives direct donations from individuals and organizations that support our efforts. You can give online at feea.org/give. Contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

In looking back on the last 30 plus years, here are a few numbers to illustrate our reach:

  • 11,000: That’s the number of merit-based scholarships we have given to the children of federal employees, federal employees themselves, and their spouses. Next year’s application will be out in November and applications will be due in March. You can learn more about this program at: www.feea.org/scholarships.

  • 14,000: That’s the number of disaster relief grants we have given after hurricanes, wildfires, floods, earthquakes etc. to federal employees who needed temporary lodging or had major damage to their homes.  So far this year we have also provided grants to over 150 federal families where the federal employee passed away due to COVD, lost a spouse, child, or parent to COVID, or had extensive leave without pay due to the illness, etc. You can learn more about our COVID response at www.feea.org/coronavirus or our other disaster programs at www.feea.org/disaster.

  • 13,000: That’s the number of no-fee, no-interest emergency loans we’ve made to feds to help make ends meet during personal tragedies like illness, death of a loved one, or a house fire. You can learn more about our hardship loans at www.feea.org/emergency.

  • 6,000: That’s the number of reusable cloth facemasks we have distributed so far to federal employees to help keep them safe on the job. You can request a free facemask at: www.feea.org/coronavirus.

  • 3,000: That’s the number of low-income federal employees we provided emergency assistance to for groceries, gas, medicine, etc. in 2019 during the longest government shutdown in US history.

  • 20,000: That’s the number of people who have come to our website to read our #FedLifeHacks and access our resources on financial wellness, family, health and wellness, and other topics. You can read all our #FedLifeHacks at www.feea.org/hacks.

  • We are also preparing to launch a new program for lower-income federal employees that will provide on-line tutoring to their children in grades K-12 who need extra support during the pandemic given changes in schooling.

Please help us by sharing the word about our programs with your colleagues. Subscribe to our newsletter to receive all our latest updates! You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter, or LinkedIn.
