This week, May 6th through 12th, marks Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW), a celebration started in 1985 and organized annually by the Public Employees Roundtable and its member organizations “to honor the men and women who serve our nation as federal, state, county, and local government employees.”

The celebration began Sunday morning at 9:00 AM with the start of the Federal Employee Education & Assistance Fund’s Public Service 5K Charity Walk/Run, with participants in D.C. and in other locations around the country. Other events during the week will include

As is tradition, President Donald Trump marked the occasion with a statement of acknowledgment of “our Nation’s civil servants for their hard work and willingness to serve their fellow citizens,” but broke from the traditionally positive tone in adding, “We are duty-bound to the American people to operate at the highest levels of capability and competency,” Trump said. “I am confident that, in keeping with the agenda, our devoted civil servants will execute their missions so that our government becomes more efficient and more productive for the benefit of all Americans.”
