OPM Issues "Guidance for Shutdown Furloughs"
Last Friday, October 11, 2013, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) issued “Guidance for Shutdown Furloughs.”
The memorandum provides guidance applicable “to activities that are funded by annual appropriations,” and OPM also provides a handy “Table of Recent Changes.”
Managers and human resource officials should review both the guidance and the table for the most up-to-date answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs). For example, FAQs address whether employees may take other jobs while on furlough, how holiday pay will be handled for excepted employees, how to handle leave for excepted employees, and more.
