Opinions of Federal Government at Record Low, According to New Report

The federal government is seen positively by fewer than three in 10 Americans, according to a new Pew Research Center survey.

Only 28 percent of survey respondents reported holding a favorable view of the federal government.

“That is down five points from a year ago and the lowest percentage ever in a Pew Research Center survey,” Pew wrote in the report.

That’s in stark contrast to the numbers in 2001 and 2009, when favorable ratings of the federal government were 82 percent and 42 percent, respectively.

While approval for the federal government waned, support for state and local governments improved over the past year, with 57 percent of respondents reporting favorable views of their state government and 63 percent holding a favorable view of their local government.
