NEW PTO PROGRAM LETS MANAGERS TELEWORK FULL-TIME
The Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) announced a new program in July that allows some managers to telework full-time. Under the arrangement such managers will oversee both remote and in-office employees.
The new program is now permanent, following a six-month voluntary pilot with 100 managers in 2012.
Danette Campbell, PTO’s senior advisor for telework, said most managers in the pilot were able, even remotely, to manage effectively.
“This program is designed to help the USPTO retain highly-skilled and qualified managers who otherwise might have returned to production-level jobs where full-time telework programs are available,” Campbell said.
“We also believe this alternative work arrangement will give us an increased ability to make management more attractive to our current teleworking workforce.”
