Mileage Reimbursement Rate Increases

The General Services Administration (GSA) published new 2011 mileage reimbursement rates that went into effect on Jan. 1, 2011. Federal employees who use their private vehicles on official business will now be reimbursed 51 cents per mile, a one cent increase from 2010.

The 2011 reimbursement rate is still four cents less than the rate in 2009.

The 51 cents per mile rate is only offered if the use of a privately-owned automobile is authorized or if no government-owned automobile is available. If a government-owned vehicle is available, the rate for a private car is 19 cents per mile.

The mileage reimbursement rate for motorcycles also increased by one cent to 48 cents per mile.

The privately owned airplane rate remains the same at $1.29 per mile.
