Happy New Year from Young Government Leaders! font size: T T T

by Shaw, Bransford & Roth, P.C.
January 5, 2010

As we said goodbye to 2009, YGL spent the past month reaffirming our direction and evaluating our efforts. One of our New Year's resolutions is to strengthen our connection with the YGL chapters. Located across the country, YGL chapters allow us to provide professional development, social networking, and community service to our members.

With this in mind, the Executive Board recently revamped its governance process to give more voice to local chapters. The new structure allows for maximum flexibility for chapters while ensuring coordination for national initiatives. The new governance structure along with a new strategic plan will foster YGL's continued growth.

As we partner with our counterparts in the chapters, we are also seeking to grow our organization to reach even more young feds. To this end we are working with some energized young government leaders to launch a new chapter in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Philadelphia is an attractive location for YGL. Recently named #2 on CNN's "Top 10 cities for new grads," Philadelphia is a hotbed of Federal activity: according to OPM data, Philadelphia is the 3rd largest home for feds outside of DC. Philadelphia's Federal Executive Board says it serves over 50,000 Feds! Home to elite colleges and universities, Philadelphia is an excellent candidate for a new chapter. All that adds up to one thing: YGL ringing in 2010 with the Liberty Bell.

If you are a young government leader in the Philadelphia area and would like to form a YGL chapter for your region, contact the YGL Executive Board. Executive Board members have experience in forming chapters and can offer expertise, assistance, and guidance.

We hope you'll continue to support us as we seek to provide personal and professional development opportunities, foster a sense of community among young government leaders, and bolster our relationships with the Federal community. Best wishes for an educational, inspirational, and transformational 2010!

YGL is a grassroots organization founded in 2003 by a group of young people interested in meeting other energized Federal government employees. Today, YGL has more than 1,800 supporters in the Washington Metropolitan Area, with local chapters in cities across the United States. As the only 501(c)(3) not for profit professional organization founded and led by young federal personnel, YGL's mission is to educate, inspire, and transform the next generation of government leaders, offering professional development, networking, and leadership opportunities for its members.
