December 1, 2009
Feds traditionally fill the month of December with holiday shopping, agency and department parties, and gift exchanges. While economic times make this year more difficult, federal employees can show their generous spirit in a small but meaningful way by helping the next generation of public servants. Young Government Leaders is proud to announce participation for the first time in the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). For those in the Washington, D.C. area, you can contribute to YGL by entering the code #38096 on your agency's CFC pledge card. Outside of the D.C. area, you must enter #38096 online at www.cfcnca.org.
With an all-volunteer staff and dedication to its members, Young Government Leaders will flow all donations back to the community. Donations will help YGL continue to serve as a voice for young government public service professionals through leadership and scholarship opportunities, professional development and community service activities, social events, and mentorship programs.
The second way to help YGL this season is through the GovLoop "AwesomeGov" Campaign. GovLoop is the premier social network for government connecting over 20,000 federal, state, and local employees, contractors, and academics. The AwesomeGov Fund aims to highlight, honor and support government by raising awareness about government-related individuals, groups and programs that are inspiring in their ability to make an impact and make government better. To celebrate the launch of the fund, GovLoop is donating $1.00 for each new government professional who joins GovLoop between November 15th and December 15th. The process will be community-driven. Members will submit charity recommendations and vote for the one that will receive all of the funds. YGL is one of the listed charities. At the end of the campaign, GovLoop will host a celebration and award the check to the winning charity. This could be YGL with your help! Sign-up for GovLoop and learn more about this great offer at www.govloop.com.
With these two great ways to help this season, you can ensure YGL will have a very Happy New Year!
YGL is a grassroots organization founded in 2003 by a group of young people interested in meeting other energized Federal government employees. Today, YGL has more than 1,800 supporters in the Washington Metropolitan Area, with local chapters in cities across the United States. As the only 501(c)(3) not for profit professional organization founded and led by young federal personnel, YGL's mission is to educate, inspire, and transform the next generation of government leaders, offering professional development, networking, and leadership opportunities for its members.
