YGL Road Show font size: T T T

by Young Government Leaders
June 3, 2009

Is your agency facing a significant need to recruit and train Generation X and Millennials due to the impending retirement of Baby Boomers?

If so, then you may want to consider bringing the Young Government Leaders (YGL) "Road Show" to your agency. The Road Show has two purposes:

  • promoting YGL among agency staff, thus increasing YGL membership and exposure; and
  • highlighting ideas for the effective recruitment and retention of the next generation of public servants.

YGL accomplishes these objectives by arranging visits to federal agencies, where its members make formal presentations to agency employees - both prospective YGL members and human resources personnel. YGL hopes to further strengthen its network through upcoming visits to the following agencies:

  • Nuclear Regulatory Commission (Rockville Office, Monday, June 8th (9:00 - 11:00 am)
  • Department of Homeland Security (late June)
  • National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (presentation to STEP interns - July or August)
  • General Services Administration (part of the new employee/student orientation - Monday, August 10, 1:30 - 2:30 p.m.)

If you are interested in bringing the YGL Road Show to your agency, YGL is eager to accommodate you! In addition, YGL is always looking for volunteers to present at an agency visit and/or help to arrange visits. For more information, please contact: Julie Saad, YGL Road Show Coordinator, by e-mailing: julie.saad@opm.gov.

YGL is a grassroots organization founded in 2003 as a group of young people interested in meeting other energized Federal government employees. Today, YGL has more than 1,800 supporters in the Washington Metropolitan Area, with local chapters in cities across the United States. As the only 501(c)(3) not for profit professional organization found and led by young federal personnel, YGL's mission is to educate, inspire, and transform the next generation of government leaders, offering professional development, networking, and leadership opportunities for its members.

YGL members don't come to events just to trade business cards and walk away. They come for the opportunity to build lasting relationships with other federal employees and brainstorm about potential solutions to the significant challenges the federal government faces in the next century. YGL encourages members to get involved, make a difference, and develop their leadership potential. Concurrently, members are guaranteed to have fun, develop long lasting friendships, and make a real difference in the business of government.
